The Huntsville school district has backed off of a plan to offer
teachers at "failing" schools more money to give up their tenure rights.
The
school board was initially slated to hold a public hearing on the issue
at a special-called meeting set for Thursday evening. The proposal
sought to offer incentive pay of at least $2,500 to teachers willing to
work in a school deemed "failing" under the Alabama Accountability Act.
